Raising Climate-Conscious Leaders Across the Kingdom

RIF Climate Action Summer Boot Camp

Royal Iwere Foundation Hosts Climate Action Summer Boot Camp

For five days, the Climate Action Summer Boot Camp a flagship initiative of the Royal Iwere Foundation (RIF) brought together children from communities across the Warri Kingdom. The programme deepened their understanding of climate change and strengthened their capacity to take informed, meaningful action. Rooted in local context, the curriculum focused on climate science, environmental responsibility, and community-driven solutions.

A key insight emerged: 90 percent of the children had never encountered the term “climate action” before attending. This revealed a critical gap in environmental education and affirmed the importance of expanding access to climate literacy across the Kingdom.

On the final day, Their Majesties, Ogiame Atuwatse III, CFR, and Olori Atuwatse III, visited the camp to observe the children’s learning outcomes. They engaged with participants during project showcases, viewed a powerful display at the climate art wall, and experienced interactive sessions that demonstrated both creativity and critical thinking.

Earlier in the week, the children explored the mangroves, where they saw firsthand the importance of protecting these ecosystems. They also led a climate campaign on the ancient island of Ode-Itsekiri using their voices to raise awareness and call for action.

Scholarship Excellence & Emerging Leaders

During the visit, Their Majesties also met with 27 outstanding students from the RIF Scholarship Fund Programme, each selected through a competitive process. These bright minds represent the academic excellence and leadership potential emerging from the Kingdom’s coastal communities.

Warri is climate-conscious. Its young people are informed, equipped, and prepared to shape the future. Through the Royal Iwere Foundation, the Kingdom continues to invest in leaders who will uphold environmental stewardship and strengthen the resilience of our land and people for generations to come.

“Stewardship today secures tomorrow and our children are leading the charge.”
